Trinity Lutheran has long been an active participant in the global fight against hunger. Among other activities, they have supported the World Hunger and Disaster Response Program; sent special food aid to drought-stricken Tanzania; contributed to Heifer Project International for an "ark" of assorted animals which enable recipients to overcome hunger and poverty by having the wherewithal to provide food to eat and sell. In addition, they have donated food to a local food bank and partnered with a neighborhood elementary school to provide food baskets each Thanksgiving for needy families of the school's students. They have purchased and distributed "Life Pax" (prepackaged, nonperishable, complete meals) to persons asking for help as a sensible alternative to giving money. They support a local organization called “Friends of the Carpenter” whose mission is “Building positive and productive peer relationships between those who are homeless with volunteers through local faith communities.”
In 1998, Pete and Suzie Davis, members of the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church, arrived in La Paz on their sailboat. During their stay in La Paz they fell in love with the children. Having returned to the states, they contacted Judy Peterson, chairman of the Charities Committee of Club Cruceros de La Paz. Shortly thereafter Pete flew to La Paz to visit the breakfast kitchen run on the site of a Catholic Church in a poor neighborhood. We introduced him at that time to Casa Cuna, a children's shelter for babies and children up to eight years old, and other impoverished areas of La Paz. At the time of that visit, Pete presented us with a generous check from Trinity Lutheran Church to apply to the purchase of food for the breakfast program.
Since that time, Trinity Lutheran has provided funds to purchase fruit and other incidentals for the breakfast program and at times provide assistance to our lunch program to meet critical needs. In addition, they also sponsor more than a dozen students in junior and senior high school.
Our thanks to the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church for their continued support.
