ROTARY INTERACTION
As members of Rotary International, the local La Paz Rotary Clubs have a responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in their communities and to serve the public interest. To that end, several of the five Rotary Clubs in La Paz have joined with us to help children at risk.
In June of 2005, Club Rotario La Paz Balandra walled off a room in our existing dining room building in which we put a small library. Thanks to their guidance we were introduced to the Coordination of Public Libraries in the State of Baja California Sur and the Mexican Federal Government. To comply with Federal requirements a second floor was built onto the existing building to house the library, complete with computers and a wireless connection to the Internet.
We have collaborated with Club Rotario La Paz Fundador and with Club Rotario Bahia La Paz in a scholarship program were students in other areas of La Paz were given backpacks filled with school supplies, uniforms and school shoes. The funds for this project were obtained from Rotary Foundation in a matching grant with Coos Bay/North Bend Rotary Club District 5110 and Club Rotario Bahia La Paz District 4100 in La Paz.
We also have collaborated with a dental trailer project with Coos Bay/North Bend Rotary Club, and with a medical trailer project with Club Rotario La Paz Balandra.
We look forward to continuing our work with these and other clubs in our joint effort to bring the Children of La Paz who live in impoverished conditions proper nutrition, education and health.
